Journalism in Politics

A Multifaceted Career: From Journalism to Politics and Beyond

I am Ana Silva, a journalist with over two decades of diverse experience in journalism in politics, and international relations. My journey in social communication began in 1997 at Jornal de Angola, which laid the foundation for my rich career. Throughout the years, I have embraced various roles, consistently blending my passion for journalism with an unwavering commitment to exploring the complexities of global issues.

Expanding in the 2000s

The early 2000s marked a significant period of growth for me. Upon returning to Luanda, I honed my skills at multiple publications, including working extensively at Jornal Agora alongside renowned journalists. My experience during this time included contributions at Semanario Cruzeiro do Sul, Semanario Angolense, and A Capital newspaper, each shaping my understanding of the media landscape in Angola and beyond.

Political and Academic Pursuits

In 2007, I embraced a new challenge as the CEO of Bumbar Media & IT, producing specialised content for the diamond sector. However, it was in 2012 that my career took a transformative turn when I entered active politics, accepting an invitation from Isaias Samacuva of the UNITA party. This transition allowed me to integrate my journalistic expertise into my political work while pursuing a degree in International Relations in 2014, further expanding my knowledge and skills.

Expanding Horizons

My political engagement deepened over the years, leading me to stand as a candidate for deputy with the UNITA party in 2017. In 2019, I undertook an intensive English course in Windhoek, Namibia, which further developed my language skills and broadened my professional horizons. My move to the UK was not just a relocation; it was an opportunity to immerse myself in a new culture and academic environment.

Looking Forward

My journey continued with a postgraduate programme in Social Sciences and Law at Kaplan International College of Liverpool, where I achieved a diploma of merit. Most recently, in 2023, I embarked on a master's degree in Political Science and International Relations. My passion for journalism and political discourse fuels my ongoing desire to contribute meaningfully to society and tackle the challenges facing our world.
